A portfolio of classic vessels restored at Commercial Wharf
Since 1987, Restoincip has restored over 240 classic vessels at our Newport shipyard. Below is a selection of recent and notable projects representing the breadth of our capabilities across sail and motor craft.
Complete Restoration
A three-year ground-up restoration of a Herreshoff Manufacturing Company S-Boat, hull number 47. Work included complete reframing in white oak, new cedar planking, rebuilt centerboard trunk, and a 12-coat Awlwood varnish programme on all exterior brightwork. The boat was re-launched in June 2025 and took first place in her class at the Newport Classic Regatta.
Structural & Cosmetic
This 22-foot mahogany runabout arrived with significant deck rot and engine issues. Our team replaced the forward deck planks, rebuilt the Chris-Craft K engine, rewired the electrical system, and applied a period-correct two-tone paint scheme. The owner received Best in Class at the Newport Wooden Boat Show.
Keel to Truck
An 18-month restoration of a Henry Nevins-built 40-foot yawl. Structural work included five new frames and partial replanking. Interior joinery was stripped and refinished, a new teak cockpit was fabricated to original drawings, and the mast step was rebuilt. Systems were upgraded to ABYC standards with concealed wiring runs.
Seasonal Refit
Annual maintenance programme for a fleet of three Rhodes 19s belonging to a Newport sailing club. Services include bottom prep and antifouling, varnish touch-ups, rig inspection, and sail track maintenance. All three boats remain in active racing trim each season.
Structural Repair
Localized frame replacement and plank repair following a grounding incident. Our survey team documented damage, developed a repair plan approved by the owner's insurer, and completed all work within one winter season. The vessel passed post-repair survey and returned to cruising the following spring.
Commercial Heritage
Restoration of a working lobster boat converted for recreational use. New engine installation, cockpit redesign, and a traditional paint scheme honouring the vessel's Downeast heritage. The owner uses the boat for family cruising along the Rhode Island coast.
